  Mad Ben Cafe
Hello readers!

I apologise as I have not been posting anything on food because I could not even take out my laptop to write. Laptops attract my little brother and he would slam things on my keyboard and even pull my laptop to where ever he wants. (Yes guys, please put the blame on my little bro) (Ok, just kidding)

Anyway, any idea what my post is about? Hehe.

Few weeks ago, my girls and I tried this newly opened cafe in Gaya Street. It’s called Mad Ben. Did you guys ever passed by this cafe maybe while looking for a parking spot to satisfy your pizza cravings in Pizza Hut? Or maybe to go for a massage in Gaya Reflexology? Haha guys, piece of advise, next time you’re hungry and happens to pass by this cafe, ENTER THE CAFE. Why? Well, I’m going to tell you why, now!

But before that, I shall let you people know where the location of Mad Ben is.
Mad Ben is in Gaya Street. It is located opposite to a pharmacy beside Pizza Hut. This cafe is in between a restaurant and a souvenir shop that has a huge durian “model” on top. Can you KK people recall the place?

No worries, here’s a picture ---

Also, I’ll also put in the location map --- (Map is by Google Maps)

Cafe address: 121, Jalan Gaya, 88000 Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia.

Operating hours: Monday to Friday : 11.00 am until 11.00 pm
Saturday and Sunday: 5.00 pm until 12.00 am

Well to me, I love this place! Only been here once and it has got me, really. The interior design of the cafe is really nice and comfortable. It is definitely a good place to have your lunch and dinner dates with your loved ones. It is suitable for a mini birthday surprise or a celebratory lunch/dinner.

The food? Oh, the best part. They have the best lamb in town in my opinion. The price is really reasonable too! Here’s a snip of the menu:

Alright... On that day, we ordered these three lamb dishes – Lamb Shoulder, Lamb Burrito & Lamb Pizza. We also ordered a few other dishes that taste good too!

#1: Lamb Shoulder
 {Price: RM20}

The meat is really juicy and succalent. We loved it! You can choose to have this with french fries or mashed potato. Both definitely goes well with this lamb dish! Mint sauce is a bit strong to some people. But overall, this dish is worth your money!

#2: Lamb Burrito
{Price: RM12}

This one tastes amazing too! It’s the best solution if you’re broke and you crave for something lamb. Haha! That’s what I did the other day and I did not regret it. Superb! The lamb is beautifully grilled, has some greens and also, mint sauce. Not to forget, the tortilla has this soft velvet feel to it and it doesn’t crack easily.

#3: Lamb Pizza
{RM 14.90}

This lamb pizza is a thin-crust pizza and it is not bad! All I can say is, if you’re a lamb lover, ORDER THIS ONE!

#4: Chicken Schnitzel
{RM 16}

This dish is pounded chicken breast. Chicken meat is succalent but a little bit dry, in my opinion. For this dish, you can also choose between french fries or mashed potato.

#5: Fish and Chips
{RM 22}

This one... I don’t know if it has always been that way because the fish is quite dry. Not like we expected it to be. And again, you can choose to have this with french fries or mashed potato. As you can see in the picture, my friend decided to have it with mashed potato. (Mashed potato is superb!)

#6: Chicken Burrito
{RM 11}

The chicken chunks for this dish is juicy and the aioli sauce inside the burrito is spot on! The tortilla is not hard or chewy, it’s just nice.

{Close up picture of the well-seasoned fries)

What’s a perfect course without dessert? Right?

#7: Pavlova
{RM 12}

It has whipped cream, syrup, fresh fruits and meringue cookie on top. The syrup is not too sweet, it's a perfect combination with the fresh fruits. Meringue cookie is lovely, it's not too crispy and not too soft. Overall, this dessert has well-balanced and rich flavours.

I would say that the highlight of our visit here is the lamb dishes! Will definitely come back for the lamb! Therefore, I would recommend you to pay this cafe a visit and taste these lovely dishes! It is worth your money, definitely.

Feel free to share your thoughts with us! :)

  Mini Facial
Hello beautiful readers,

Today, I want to share a very simple mini facial that everyone can do to pamper themselves after a long week. From my personal opinion, my skin looks glowing and brighter after trying this mini facial. So, why not give it a try right? ;) However, if you have sensitive skin, I wouldn't recommend this for you okay?

Things you need:

  • Damp towel
  • Your facial wash
  • Uncooked oatmeal
  • Bowl with boil water / or face sauna
  • Fork
  • Tissue
  • Moisturizer
  • your favorite book to read!
  • Fruit
For oily face: 6 strawberries
For dry face: 1 banana

things you will need

strawberries
face sauna from Watson

Ready ladies? Okay!
  1.  Apply your facial wash for 1 minute before wiping with a clean, damp towel.
  2. Take uncooked oatmeal on your face and rub them in blob or round shape with 2 fingers each side. This will help to peel away those dead skin cells and clear blocked pores. Rinse with warm water.
  3. Set a bowl of boiled water. Off your fans because it’s your sauna time! Lean over the bowl and let the steam pass your face. This help to open up the pores on your face while also softening it.
  4. After a good 2-3 minutes, splash your face with warm water then pat dry.

  5. my pimple popper

  6.  (This step is optional) here, you can squeeze out your black pores or some white pores as they are more easy to come out now. I usually use the above tool, pimple popper :)

  7. as for me, i used strawberries!
  8.  Apply on your homemade fruit facial
Oily skin: slice to small bits of 6 strawberries with a fork and leave it on your face for 3 minutes
Normal/dry skin : crush a peeled banana with a fork, and leave on your face for 5 minutes
      7.   Remove the fruits with tissue then rinse your face with warm water
      8.     Splash your face with cold water and pat dry

i used NV moisturizer
      9.   Lastly, massage your moisturizer to give that extra boost of complexion

If you don’t have any fruits , you can also use an egg. An egg has their natural protein to lift your face and give nutrients too. I personally use this method since a long time ago.

Steps:
  1.           Crack the egg and break the shell into two parts to separate the yolk on an empty bowl
  2.       Use a fork to beat the yolk .
  3.       Take a small amount of yolk using a spoon or your fingers, and apply it on your face.
  4.        Let it dry for 20 minutes or less, then wash it with warm water.
  5.       Now take the remains of the egg,and beat it until bubbles are formed
  6.       Apply it on your face, and leave until 10 mins, then wash with cold water. Later pat dry and       you are done!

Once u get used to the amount of eggs u use, next time you can save other remains of the eggs to cook them okay?
That’s all for now, I hope you readers would try it!

  Eye shadow

Have u ever find yourself having a hard time putting on eyeshadows?  The color combination or the technique? Or simply you don’t feel like you have pulled off your eyeshadow?

Good day to you beautiful readers! Today, I want to share some basic technique on applying eyeshadows. I know that there are many-so,so many beautician have written this post. But I too, want to have my own make up applying post. (yay). With some research and a little bit of my personal experience, i came up with this post. so keep reading!

From the name itself, "eyeshadow" has clearly point out its magical function. The shadow literally means it gives colors and brightens the eyes. So I’ve got some suggestions. For brown eyes, I‘d say golden brown mostly, other option is olive green. For blue eyes, peach or light/pastel pink will help. Green eyes(rare eyes,my favorite), lilac or gold. And lastly for hazel eyes, gray color or mauve.

  1. Start with applying primer equally on the eyelid. The primer will help the eyeshadow to last longer. But this is optional.
  2. Then, apply the palest shade around the eyebrow line. This will highlight the brow line.
  3. Next, use a brush(preferable) or your finger to apply the medium shade color you want across the eyelid. Avoid the inner corners while applying it.
  4. Later, take the darkest color around the crease to define the shape of your eyes. Blend the colors nicely. The blending should be done between two colors’ line. Remember not to over do it, or the colors would mix up entirely and ruin the original color.
  5. Lastly, put a little amount of white eye shadow to your inner eye. this will create nice effect to your eyes!

However, not all beautiful eyes can pull off this technique. If u have eyes with wider lids, that's a real bonus! The important role of applying eyeshadow is that, it gives  a bit more color to your eyes. Especially during shooting, or taking pictures. To me, I prefer natural colors such as brown. The brown color is applied with it’s different tone.

My routine after applying eyeshadow, I would draw my eyeliner like a cat's eye because they are my favorite! Then I’ll just do my eyebrows. I might write a post later,-my way of drawing eyeliners. Stay tuned! I hope my post will be meaningful to you, that would be amazing!

How i applied my eyeshadow

Later, I draw the eyeliner and set the lashes

This is a closer look for the makeup

  Raya's Special
Hello dear readers!

As we all know, Eid Mubarak is just around the corner. I have prepared someting that you guys might use for your tummy’s satisfaction. I have been helping my mom and sister in the kitchen for our Raya preparations. Kitchen... Raya prep... Can you guess? Yes, of course! Kuih Raya! What’s Raya without yummy kuih Raya(s)? It’s definitely a must. Am i right or am i right? Hehe.

Okay now..

What’s your favourite kuih Raya, guys? J (Feel free to comment and interact with us!  ҉  )

Well if you ask me (even if you didn’t wonder, I’m still going to say it hehe), mine is kuih cornflakes (honey cornflakes cups), kuih samprit, kuih makmur (especially my nenek’s, she makes the best kuih makmur since.. forever! No lies.) and the list goes on and on...
Due to some hecticness, I decided to share simple (egg-less, so no eggs needed. How simple!)  kuih recipes which are... my faves -  kuih cornflakes and kuih samprit. Also, since my mom and sister are baking those kuihs, I decided to observe and ask for the recipes at the drop of a hat!

Okay so, are you guys ready? Of course you are! Hehe.

Recipe 1: Honey cornflakes cups
You may need:

1.    100g of butter

2.    3 tablespoons of brown sugar

3.    6 tablespoons of honey

4.    3 tablespoons of peanut butter (major bonus for peanut butter lovers like me!)

5.    200g of cornflakes cereal

6.    Cherries (only if you like them, haha)

7.    Small-sized paper liners (small portions are better. Like a malay saying – sikit-sikit, lama-lama jadi bukit. Okay... that does not makes any sense! L)

8.    Colourful sprinkles (for attractive-looking kuih)

9.    An oven (to crisp these babies up!)

10.  High patience (because trust me, it takes time to put them into those paper liners and having to wait them to get a little crispy in the oven)

Alright, now... the fun part – mixing them ingredients together!

Step 1: Mix the butter and brown sugar together in a small pot. Turn on the heat (oh yes, you need to do this on the stove!) (p/s: the amount of these ingredients depend on the amount of your cornflakes cereal)

Step 2: After the butter and brown sugar mixed together well, add in honey and 3 (or tons of it!!!) tablespoons of peanut butter. Oh, not to forget, add your cherries in. You can adjust the taste by adding sugar (if you prefer sweeter taste). Once the mixture thicken up and you’re happy with the taste, turn the heat off.

● You will get something like this:

This mixture has no cherries, you can put the cherries in later on J

Step 3: Next, prepare your cornflakes cereal in a bowl. Preferably a big bowl, so that it would be easier for you to mix the mixture and cornflakes together.

● Your cornflakes mix will look like...

This.
(for your information, this is our second batch making and we decided to not put cherries in. Hence, the cherry-less mix. You can either mix or not, depends on your liking J)

Step 4: Now, the part where would test your patience – putting them cornflakes into your paper liners. After that, bake them in the oven at 175 °c for 3-4 minutes (or until they’re nice and golden.)

Step 5: Last but not least, arrange your kuih in an air-tight container and you can munch on your kuih anytime! Hehe.

Moving on... the second recipe. This one, Kuih Samprit Susu is really good, I tell you. I think it is a little bit different from the normal samprit? The normal samprit has eggs in the mixture however this one does not need eggs. So I guess both of them have different texture. Right?

Recipe 2: Kuih Samprit Susu

You may need:

1.    250g of butter

2.    ¾ cup of sweet condensed milk
3.    400g of corn flour

4.    5 tablespoons of custard flour

5.    1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

6.    A few drops of yellow colouring

7.    Cherries or chocolate chips (for decoration)

8.    A cookie press OR piping bag & piping nozzle.

This is how my cookie press looks like. If you do not have a cookie press, not to worry because a piping bag and a nozzle would do the trick! J

Okay, firstly...

a) Beat the butter, sweet condensed milk, vanilla extract and yellow colouring in together in a  mixing bowl for a few minutes at medium speed.

b)  Next, add the dry ingredients – corn flour and custard flour into the mixture together.

c)  Beat until smooth.

d)    Prepare many (many many) cookie trays. Make sure they are greased well with butter or margerine (both works) or you can use a non-stick baking spray.

e) If you have a cookie press, all you have to do is to put an amount of the dough inside the cookie press. After pressed on cookie trays, put cherry cubes in the middle. You can also use chocolate chips, it all depends on what you prefer.

You’ll get something like this:

*** If you’re using piping bag and a nozzle, you need to use a star nozzle like this:

And your kuih samprit will look like this:

Picture from Google, I’m sorry to the owner of the picture (and thanks).

f ) Bake for 15-20 minutes at 175°c. Always keep an eye on your cookies, because you would not want burnt batch of cookies. Hint: when the base is golden brown, it is done.

g)  Leave them to cool for a few minutes and put them inside an air-tight container for last-long freshness.

********************************************************************************************************

Alright , that is all for now.

Good luck trying. Don’t be shy and leave some feedbacks or questions if you have any, in our comment box below. We will gladly respond to them J

Thank you for reading and apologies for the lack of illustrations.

Have a good day J x
